MSU’s Implementation of the Department of Education’s revised FAFSA Calculations

Value
Financial Aid eligibility and award packages are critical factors for many families and students when deciding to attend MSU. The project is committed to providing an accurate and timely award offering to all eligible students.

Business function
Implement changes to MSU processes and systems to calculate Institutional and Federal student aid based on the FAFSA Simplification Act, passed by Congress in 2021.

Purpose
The Office of Financial Aid reviews all applicants and students' aid eligibility using a combination of Oracle Student Financial Planning (SFP) programs, information from the FAFSA, and MSU custom programs to review and evaluate the total aid and individual aid recommendations for the academic year.  This project will align the MSU systems with the changes made to the federal FAFSA system. 

Research Security Enclave

Value
Provide a scalable and secure Regulated Research Enclave (RRE) that is in compliance with the Department of Defense (DoD)  requirements.

Business function
Build a research security enclave and associated support services to meet the necessary controls to enable MSU to conduct research that contains controlled unclassified information (CUI). 

Purpose
The DoD requires the streamlining of cybersecurity controls and is expecting compliance by all institutions conducting government business by 2026. To meet this requirement, a scalable and secure Regulated Research Enclave (RRE) is needed to protect projects with data that meet the classification of CUI. Without this secure environment, we could lose or be unable to accept DoD-funded research projects.  

Integrate Campus Building Security System

Value
To improve campus electronic security systems, which will enhance safety on campus for students, staff, faculty, and visitors.  This project aims to increase efficiency across operations, improve management of physical security and elevate police response and situational awareness.  

Business function
Implement a unified security platform for all MSU campus buildings access control, intrusion monitoring, and video systems. 

Purpose
Integrate into one security platform, surveillance, and access control systems, and amplify video surveillance with the addition of more 3,000 cameras across campus to provide a more secure environment. 

Digital Accessibility Website Scanner, Inventory and Training Project 

Value
Michigan State University is committed to providing equitable access to University programs, services, and information while enhancing inclusion for the broadest possible audience. 

Business function
Update our Accessibility Dashboard with better information on websites and training by purchasing a website accessibility scanner, improving our digital inventories, updating our database of known accessibility issues, and developing a basic accessibility training. 

Purpose
This project helps MSU units better understand the state of their digital accessibility efforts, providing them with an important opportunity to contribute to MSU’s culture of equity and inclusion. It also helps the university ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations including the Americans with Disabilities Act. 

SAP Migration

Value
To ensure that MSU Human Resources (HR) customer needs are continued to be met, this project provides a seamless transition of MSU payroll functions to an updated SAP platform. 

Business function
MSU needs to upgrade the HR SAP system due to current version becoming outdated and unsupported by SAP. 

Purpose
SAP mainstream support ends in 2027 . This new system will be supported until 2040. 
 

University Name and Pronoun

Value
Respect the individual’s ability to self-identify within the MSU community.  

Business function
Implement a system to collect student, faculty, and staff’s name and pronoun information and share it to MSU’s core technology systems to provide consistency. 

Purpose
Implement a centralized collection of self-identity information (name and pronouns) that will work with core applications already in use. In addition, provides the ability for non-core applications to connect and retrieve this information to enable students, faculty, and staff the ability to interact with the MSU community appropriately. 

Huron Research Suite and AOPS Module

Value
Implement a streamlined and future ready technology and process solution that allows MSU’s Researchers to continue their research in support of MSU 2030 Strategic Plan goal. 

Business function
Improve the researcher experience and efficiency of processes surrounding the lifecycle of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). 

Purpose
Implement a research technology solution that will remain compliant with present and future federal, state, local, and university rules and regulations without significant additional cost or effort. More efficient processes and workflows will be adopted in a standardized user interface that helps Principal Investigators improve their research capacity and performance and helps administrators track and document all areas of compliance.  

Endowment Management

Value
To better manage endowments, improve customer communication and service, and to enhance reporting on endowments and gift agreements.

Business function
Ensure spending on endowed funds can be fully maximized to allow more strategic use of the University’s budget. Increase size of financial aid awards for students through effective spending and administration of scholarship funds. 

Purpose
Implement an endowment accounting solution with modernized reporting structure that centralize and automate endowed fund agreement. 

Spartan One-Stop Salesforce Implementation

Value
Eliminate barriers to students accessing their information thereby leading to improved student satisfaction and a higher level of confidence that MSU is worth the value.  

Business Function
The Spartan One-Stop aims to provide a seamless experience for students to meet their expectations for personalization and convenience. 

Purpose
This project includes leveraging and implementing a case management system to create a personalized student experience and capture a single view of the student allowing staff to better support, assist, and respond faster. 

College of Vet Med Online Ordering System

Value
This will enable MSU to have a fully integrated online veterinary experience to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.  

Business function
To develop a new Online Laboratory ordering system. 

Purpose
To develop the new online ordering system that will integrate with MSU's existing back-end systems and allow clients to order diagnostic tests from a custom-built web portal. 

Marketing Technology Modernization Initiative

Value
Modernizing marketing and communications technology ensures that interactions are relevant and memorable, creating stronger emotional connections. Engaging at critical touchpoints enables MSU to meet Spartans where they are, increasing loyalty and advocacy over time. Ultimately, it will transform how they perceive and interact with MSU, leading to lasting relationships throughout their lifetime.

Improve the University Communications and Marketing Digital Experiences 

Purpose
Modernize marketing and communications at MSU to enable the creation of meaningful branded digital experiences at critical touchpoints that connect and engage Spartans across a lifetime.
