MSU’s Implementation of the Department of Education’s revised FAFSA Calculations

Value
Financial Aid eligibility and award packages are critical factors for many families and students when deciding to attend MSU. The project is committed to providing an accurate and timely award offering to all eligible students.

Business function
Implement changes to MSU processes and systems to calculate Institutional and Federal student aid based on the FAFSA Simplification Act, passed by Congress in 2021.

Purpose
The Office of Financial Aid reviews all applicants and students aid eligibility using a combination of Oracle Student Financial Planning (SFP) programs, information from the FAFSA and MSU custom programs to review and evaluate the total aid and individual aid recommendations for the academic year.

Research Security Enclave

Value
Without this secure environment, we could lose or be unable to accept DoD funded research projects.

Business function
Build a research security enclave and associated support services to meet the necessary controls to enable MSU research that contains controlled unclassified information (CUI).

Purpose
The Department of Defense (DOD) requires the streamlining of cybersecurity controls and is expecting compliance by for all institutions conducting government business by 2026. To meet this requirement, a scalable and secure Regulated Research Enclave (RRE) is needed to protect projects with data that meet the classification of CUI.  

Integrate Campus Building Security System

Value
Enhances campus safety, increases efficiency across operations, improves management of physical security and elevates police response and situational awareness.

Business function
Implement a unified security platform for all MSU campus buildings access control, intrusion monitoring, and video systems.

Purpose
Integrate into one security platform surveillance and access control systems and amplify video surveillance with the addition of 3,000 – 5,000 cameras across campus.


Planon Implementation

Value
Help MSU better serve its customers in areas such as properties, assets, space management, inventory and purchasing, planned maintenance, vehicle leases, events, and more.

Business function
Replace MSU facilities management software solution (FAMIS), which is set to retire.

Purpose
Planon is a cloud-based Enterprise Maintenance Management System (EMMS) that will transition multiple units at MSU to a new integrated workplace management system (IWMS)

RFP: Convert HR HCM System to H4S4

Value  
This project will enable us to better serve our customers by upgrading to the new version of the software which supports MSU's HR functions. 

Business function
MSU needs to upgrade the HR SAP system. The current EBS model is on an older SAP version.

Purpose
Complete an RFP to identify an implementation partner for the upgrade.

University Name/Gender/Pronoun

Value
Respect the individual’s ability to determine self-identity within the MSU community.

Business function
Determine a path to collect name/gender/pronoun information and share among the enterprise landscape of information technology applications.

Purpose
Implement a centralized collection of self-identity information (name, gender, and pronouns) that works with core applications already in use. Provide the ability for non-core applications to connect and retrieve this information to interact with the MSU community appropriately.

Huron Research Suite and AOPS Module

Value
Upgrade IACUC and Safety modules and replacement of aging legacy CARLOS solution with AOPS, a streamlined, future-ready solution. Implement a solution that will remain compliant with present and future federal, state, local, and university rules and regulations without significant additional cost or effort.

Business function
Electronic Research Administration Systems

Purpose
Improve the researcher experience and efficiency of processes surrounding the lifecycle of IACUC and Safety and the subsequent implementation of Huron Animal Operations (AOPS). AOPS replaces the old lab animal ordering systems (CARLOS).

RFI/RFP: Enterprise Curriculum Management Solution

Value
Select a modern, enterprise curriculum management solution for MSU that will replace aging systems.

Business function
The RFI/RFP project will select a new Enterprise Curriculum Management Solution that will replace the Courses and the Academic Programs systems.

Purpose
The RFI/RFP project will review curriculum management systems in the marketplace, select a system, and procure the software for implementation. (Implementation will be a separate project based on selection.)

TDX for Portfolio & Project Management

Value
Improved decision making which will allow for the EPMO and PPMO to delivery sustainable results with speed, quality, and predictability.

Business function
Implement TeamDynamix as a Portfolio and Project Management (PPM) tool and processes to replace retired home grown solutions.

Purpose
Elevate the project management customer experience to provide proactive customer service. This solution that leverages technology and assists in making informed decisions. Looking forward towards a community of project managers, this tool can meet the need for an enterprise project management solution for the campus community.

College of Vet Med Online Ordering System

Value
This will enable MSU to have a fully integrated online experience bringing MSU up to par with peer institutions and improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Business function
To develop a new Online Laboratory ordering system.

Purpose
Working with a vendor to develop the new online ordering system that will integrate with MSU's existing back-end systems.

Marketing Technology Modernization Initiative

Value
This project includes several enterprise marketing technology platforms that will be made available to departments across the university as part of a broader digital experience program.

Business Function
University Communications and Marketing Digital Experiences

Purpose
Modernize marketing and communications at MSU to enable the creation of meaningful branded digital experiences at critical touchpoints that connect and engage Spartans across a lifetime.

Spartan One-Stop Salesforce Implementation

Value
Eliminate barrier to students accessing their information thereby leading improved satisfaction and a higher level of confidence that MSU is worth the value.

Business Function
The Spartan One-Stop aims to provide a seamless experience for students to meet their expectations for personalization and convenience

Purpose
This project includes leveraging and implementing a case management system to create a personalized student experience, capture a single view of the student to better support, assist and respond faster.

SAP Migration

Value
This project will enable us to better serve our customers by upgrading to the new version of the software which supports MSU's HR functions.

Replace unsupported Campus Call software that reached end of life in July 2023.

Purpose
Implement and integrate VanillaSoft software fundraising for the UA Greenline team to Ascend (SalesForce).

Value
Enables fundraising activities, fundraising processes, and recordkeeping. VanillaSoft presents more flexibility and smarter ways to raise funds for the university along with a better donor experience.

Business function
Convert Offices using end of life AVAYA multimedia call center phone software to Genesys CX software.

Purpose
Facilitate provision of multimedia call center services

Value
Continue to allow MSU internal and external clients to be serviced and to improve the efficiency of their call center operations.

Business function
Improve the recruitment and admissions processes for the university

Purpose
Provide a shared CRM recruitment and admissions for all careers at the university.

Value
Streamline the admission processes, providing custom CRM functionality, establishing a common data structure for Campus Solutions integration and university reporting, and improving transparency with central offices and colleges or programs at a lower cost to MSU.

Business Function
Course Evaluation Tool

Purpose
This project will implement the vended application eXplorance Blue. The application provides student course evaluation software. eXplorance will provide an experienced partnership to implement while MSU will contribute academic consensus/decisions and technical setup of application framework. This work is expected to culminate with a full implementation for fall semester 2023.

Value
Strengthening the quality of instruction is a fundamental component of Michigan State University’s commitment to supporting student success; as such, it is important to have an effective tool to allow students to assess and provide faculty with feedback regarding courses and for faculty to collect information regarding course content, instructional effectiveness, and new approaches from students.

Business function
Determine Google storage limits for the MSU community.

Purpose
Implement role-based storage limits for the MSU community that keep us within Google storage limits that are no-cost. Provide infrastructure and guidance documentation to allow for user self-service relocation of stored data to the best option available.
