Enterprise Project Management Office

Enterprise Project Management Office

The EPMO provides an enterprise-wide approach to identify, prioritize and successfully execute a portfolio of projects to align with Michigan State University goals.

The EPMO is a unit within the Office of the Executive Vice President of Administration (OEVPA) whose role is to provide a centralized and coordinated hub for enterprise projects and requests.

The EPMO is responsible for developing and supporting processes for the intake, approval, prioritization of project requests and facilitating university-wide project management activities for projects that align with the University's mission and strategic goals.

 Enterprise Project Request

We provide comprehensive services to the university through:

  • A project intake process that utilizes Governance Review and approval ensuring the request aligns with the University’s goals and direction and is in alignment with the 2030 Strategic Plan.
  • Project request prioritization with Governance Committee direction.
  • Short and long-range roadmap development, helping ensure proper resource capacity and allocation.
  • Stakeholder alignment and clarity of decision-making authority, with transparency and accountability for portfolio and individual project success.
  • Oversight and delivery on scope, schedule, budget and customer requirements.

Requesting project work from the EPMO is initiated by submitting an Enterprise Project Request.  The Project Request is used to capture requests related to:
  • Aligns with University Strategic Goals
  • Top priority for the University
  • Business Improvements (process, organization, etc.)
  • Affects multiple departments
  • Strategic in nature
  • Highly complex
  • Complex technology requirements
  • RFP management (Request for Proposal)

Once the Project Request is submitted, the request is routed to the MSU Governance Committee for approval to proceed. You will be kept apprised of each step in the process and requested to participate in a presentation of the request to the Governance Committee as part of the approval process.  We encourage you to invite us to a discussion regarding your project needs as early as possible!
